Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process used to optimize a website's technical configuration, content relevance and gives people a list of links relevant to their search query.
History of SEO
It is believed that SEO was born in 1991, the first search engine were launched. Yahoo, the most popular search engine at that time. Google was started by two students in 1998 as part of their project in college. It was applied as a subdomain under their university website, the result will be sent to their email within 24hrs. By 2000 internet was widely used all over the world. On september11 2001, Al -Qaeda attack on World Trade Center in America shocked everyone. People were started to search news on google, but the result was disappointing. This makes google looks down. The Search Engineers started to sort out this problem by using web crawlers. A web crawler, crawler or web spider, is a computer program that is used to search and automatically index website content and other information over the internet.
Crawling is the process by which a program called Google bot(or robot or spider) which can scan and understand a new page. The snapshot of that page is saved into the database according to their category called Catching. The saved files get list out by Indexing.
On- Page Optimization
On Page Optimization is the task of optimizing elements on a webpage. To attain high ranking, we optimize both the content and HTML source. It serve high quality content to the query.
The webmasters (custodian of the website) can control the webpages, who gives guidelines on optimization practice. The search engineers opposed this idea because they have secret files. But at last , they published a 32 page pdf document called "SEO Starter guide".
Evolution of SEO
SEO practice optimization led to spam activity, that is search result quality downs in google. This makes google introduced content specific or niche specific. The focusing keyword occurrence more time results in ranking. This is called keywords stuffing. It is a black hat SEO technique(un-ethical),where there is an overuse of keywords within a webpage. Google changes its algorithm to link specific . Here ranking decides according to the number of links received from other websites. Each hyperlink will be considered as recommendation vote.

The website owners started to sell links to others, makes quality link specific. The pages were ranked in the rating out of 10. PageRank(PR) is used to rank webpages in their search engine results. The ranks referred to the trust value of that web page. Google award page rank updates according to 200 factors . High page ranks started to sell links to the webmasters. To overcome this, google introduced new tactics called "passing the juice". If the webmasters with good page ranking gives link to other pages, their ranking will be reduced. Link juice is the term used in the SEO world to refer to the value or equity passed from one page or site to another. This value is passed through hyperlinks. Search engines see link as votes by other websites that your page is valuable and worth promoting.

Google was afraid of changing its algorithm at the time of 2003 to 2008. But at that time, google becomes more popular and entered into advertisement field. Google AdWords, later changed to Google Ads is a advertisement platform where business is promoted through advertisements in google. Google Ads was released on October 23, 2000. CPC(cost per click value) means that you pay to each click on your ads. Google AdSense, earn money from website monetization. PPC stands for pay per click, where the advertiser pays a fee each time one of their ads is clicked.
After 2008, introduced autosuggest and Personalized search results. Google give more importance to user interaction and demoted non interaction websites. Bounce rate is the number of visitors who come to your page without viewing any other page on your websites.it affects ranking.
Pogo sticking - when a user click the first page and leave the page without spending more time and enter into the next page and interact more time, google give top position to the second page. By 2010, social media like face book, Orkut etc influence everyone.
